1. Third Shaft - Assemble


1.
Install these parts in the following order:

-1.
49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (A)
-2.
45 x 50 x 25 mm needle bearing (B)
-3.
4th gear (C)
-4.
49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (D)
-5.
4th gear washer (E)
NOTE: Install the 4th gear washer by aligning the fingers (F) with the grooves (G), and in the direction shown.

2.
Install these parts in the following order:

-1.
36 mm cotters (H)
-2.
Cotter retainer (I)
-3.
Snap ring (J)
-4.
37 x 42 x 25 mm needle bearings (K)
-5.
6th gear (L)






3.
Apply ATF to the shaft splines of the reverse selector hub contact area.

4.
Place the reverse selector hub (A) in the direction shown.

5.
Press the reverse selector hub into place using the 40 mm I.D. driver handle, the 30 mm I.D. bearing driver attachment, and a press.

2. Third Shaft 6th Gear Axial Clearance - Inspect

1.
Measure the clearance between 6th gear (A) and the reverse selector hub (B) with a feeler gauge (C) in at least three places. Use the average as the actual clearance.

Standard:
0.045?0.420 mm (0.002?0.016 in)






2.
If the clearance is out of the standard, remove the 4th gear washer and measure its thickness.

3.
Select and install a new 4th gear washer, then recheck the clearance.
