NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information.

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil and the PCM.?
2.
Ignition coil check:

Ignition coil check

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Exchange the ignition coil from the problem cylinder with one from another cylinder.

?3.
Start the engine.

?4.
Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

Check the following fuse.

Is the fuse OK?

Go to step 4.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair a short in the IG1 (IGN COIL)/IG1 (COIL)/IG COIL RLY OUT wire between the ignition coil and the No. A9 (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box. Also replace the No. A9 (15 A) fuse, then do the repair verification.

Relay check:

Remove the ignition coil relay (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

Is the relay OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 5.
     
NO
     
     
     
Replace the ignition coil relay, then do the repair verification.

Open wire check (IG1 (IGN COIL)/IG1 (COIL)/IG COIL RLY OUT) line):

Open wire check (IG1 (IGN COIL)/IG1 (COIL)/IG COIL RLY OUT) line)

Reinstall the ignition coil relay.

?2.
Disconnect the following connector(s).

?3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?4.
Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

IG ON (II) or ON mode
 
Ignition coil 3P connector (problem cylinder): disconnected
Test circuit
IG1 (IGN COIL)

Ignition coil 3P connector No. 1 (BLK/WHT)

Is there battery voltage?

     
YES
     
     
     
The IG1 (IGN COIL)/IG1 (COIL)/IG COIL RLY OUT wire is OK. Go to step 6.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the IG1 (IGN COIL)/IG1(COIL)/IG COIL RLY OUT wire between the ignition coil and the ignition coil relay, then do the repair verification.
6.
Open wire check (PG (COIL) line):

Open wire check (PG (COIL) line)

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0) or OFF mode
 
Ignition coil 3P connector (problem cylinder): disconnected

PG (COIL)
Test point 1
Ignition coil 3P connector No. 2 (BLK)
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The PG (COIL) wires are OK. Go to step 7.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the PG (COIL) wire between the ignition coil and G101, then do the repair verification.
7.
Shorted wire check (IGN lines):

Jump the SCS line with the HDS.


?2.
Disconnect the following connector.

?3.
Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate PCM connector terminal of the problem ignition coil (see table).

Repair a short in the IGN wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then do the repair verification.
     
NO
     
     
     
The IGN wires are not shorted. Go to step 8.

Open wire check (IGN lines):

Check for continuity between appropriate ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 3 and the appropriate PCM connector terminal of the problem ignition coil (see table).
Test condition
IG LOCK (0) or OFF mode

YES
     
     
     
The IGN wire is OK. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then do the repair verification.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the IGN wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then do the repair verification.
Repair verification:

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Reconnect all connectors.

?3.
Exit the SCS mode with the HDS.


?4.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353, and/or P0354 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.
     
NO
     
     
     
Troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.?
